MAN IN THE KITCHEN 2009 - October 15-18

    WHAT THE WEEKEND IS ABOUT...

Forget the old cliche that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Things have changed. Today's women fall for men who (besides a few other qualities) know how to put something delicious on the table!

We're not teaching survival skills here. In as little as a weekend, these men (no matter how bad the case) will be transformed into pleasure-giving chefs who know how to match sexy food with delectable wines and create an enchanting atmosphere.

The cookery sessions are limited to 8 people. They are informal and fun (and hands-on for those who would like this).

Excursions include a visit to an olive press, a winemaker, a bee-keeper and an award-winning goatscheese farm and all include tutored tastings. We can even fit in a visit to the immense wineries of revered ex-rugby international Gerard Bertrand - l'Hospitalet. (Excursions are flexible and changeable wherever possible... provided all guests concur).

    WHAT THE WEEKEND INCLUDES...

    • 3 nights accommodation tasteful surroundings
    • all meals and all wine - both at home and in restaurants
    • all transport to and from the airport and all excursions
    • all cookery demonstrations and tutored winetastings

Return home to settle in, and a cookery demonstration before dinner.

day 2 saturday - after breakfast, we will visit a local beekeeper to learn about and taste his great range of totally unique honeys. Home for a cookery session and a lingering lunch. In the afternoon we'll visit the immense wineries of ex-rugby international Gerard Bertrand: l'Hospitalet, for a tutored tasting. After an outdoor waterside aperitif at the Porte Minervoise, we'll have dinner in a local restaurant.

day 3 sunday - after breakfast we'll visit the pretty village of St Chinian and its openair food market. Then after an aperitif on its 'cosmopolitan' town square we'll head for the Gorges of the Orb river for a picnic (and perhaps a gentle hike afterwards.) Home for a final cookery demonstration and dinner.

day 4 monday - time for a stroll along the Canal du Midi after breakfast, then to the airport for our flight home. Packed lunch provided.

The new cooks will go home with a a collection of recipes of all the dishes demonstrated and eaten during the week - a veritable repertoire of fool-proof dishes to suit all occasions, guidelines on how to choose wine and some ideas on how to 'set the scene' for an interesting evening.
